Die Westliche Beißschrecke (Platycleis albopunctata) ist eine sehr wärmeliebende Art, die sich von Insekten und Pflanzenteilen ernährt. Dieses Exemplar befand sich auf einer südexponierten Ackerbrache und kletterte ohne Scheu von einer Pflanze auf meinen Finger, den ich der Heuschrecke hinhielt. Später kletterte sie jedoch genauso willig wieder dorthin zurück. Die deutlich gekrümmte Legeröhre ist im Vergleich zum Körper schon von enormer Größe. Mit ihrer Hilfe werden die Eier in trockene Pflanzenstängel oder auch Mulm abgelegt.
