Die Karden-Sonneneule (Heliothis viriplaca) ist ein wärmeliebender Wanderfalter aus der Familie der Eulenfalter. Der Falter ist tag- und nachtaktiv und ist häufig, wie auch auf dem Foto, auf sonnigen Ackerbrachen zu finden. Die Raupen fressen an Blüten ganz verschiedener Pflanzen. Durch seine Wanderungen schwankt die Häufigkeit seiner Vorkommen lokal ganz erheblich. Er ist in Europa weit verbreitet. Interessant ist, dass der Falter als Puppe überwintert. Im Jahresverlauf tritt die Art in zwei Generationen auf.
