Und wieder hatte ich Gelegenheit, einen Großen Wollschweber (Bombylius major) bei seinem Flug durch die schüttere Vegetation eines Halbtrockenrasens zu beobachten. Es ist schon erstaunlich, mit welcher Präzision er durch die Pflanzen fast wie ein Hubschrauber manövriert und vor den verschiedenen Blüten verharrt. In diesem Fall besucht er gerade eine Blüte des Großen Knorpellattichs (Chondrilla juncea), wobei er nicht wie üblich im Schwirrflug vor der Blüte stehend seinen Rüssel in die Blüte taucht, sondern sich festklammert und dann den Nektar aufnimmt.
