Die Große Schwebfliege (Syrphus ribesii) ist über ganz Europa und auch Asien verbreitet und in fast allen Biotopen zu finden. Auch im Garten ist diese Art ein häufiger Gast. Während die Larven räuberisch leben und am Tag bis zu 150 Blattläuse fressen, ernähren sich die Imagines ausschließlich von Pollen und Nektar. Die Schwebfliegen sind nach den Bienen die wichtigsten Bestäuber. Dieses Exemplar der Großen Schwebfliege nimmt gerade den Pollen von Efeu zu sich. Im Herbst gehört der Efeu zu den attraktivsten Pflanzen für ganz verschiedene Insektenarten.
